Message from SRLOA President,
Dr. Folami Prescott-Adams

Greetings Sassafras Landowners,

I have been a landowner since the early 90’s. I own Lot 7, next to Mansa’s Juque Joint that sold only earlier this week. I knew Shaka when we both lived in Philadelphia in the early 80’s. Shaka was then and has always been a grassroots activist. Being a caretaker for 500 acres of land came easy for this man raised in the big city!  He did his best and gave his all with machete in hand most days. I always felt safe AND adventurous with Shaka at the helm - cutting through the trees and vines to explore the land and suss out creeks of fresh spring water and lots and lots of sassafras.

Indeed, today, over 30 years later, we are not where we started and yet we have a way to go. We are now a multi-cultural community of landowners who bought in for many different reasons from vacation home-seekers to preppers waiting for the chance to live off the grid - and everything in between.

I ran for whatever office was most needed to lend my facilitation skills to the Sassafras Ridge community. I can help us shape a shared vision, set priorities, get to know each other, raise capital for the roads. And I know we have to start by listening to each other. Hence, I asked my fellow landowners to vote for my listening ear. (Little did I know that position would be President. When the community speaks, I have to listen. And here I am!)
